Week 15: 1/29/2018: Into the Waters of Baptism

Hey y'all!

This week was incredible. This email might be long, but read it anyway! Don't just skip down to the pictures 😉

We started off the week with district meeting. We were the only sisters in our district, but now there are sisters in the Pilgrim Mill ward. That should be fun! District meeting was awesome, and then we all went out to eat afterwards. I am excited to see what happens this transfer!

As the week went on, we helped at Belmont (assisted living). We go there every Wednesday and Thursday, and it is always a blast! I love the people there ❤ we work with people who have dementia, and they are the best! Seriously, so funny. June is a sweetheart, Briggs is a cute old man (actually they're all old), and Ruth is SASSY. I absolutely adore all of them!

We visited a less active part member family this week too. The family was nice, but a little skeptical. A few years ago, this lady was told that she was a "waste of time", and now she doesn't have much trust for the missionaries. We hope to change her mind. She has great potential, and knows a lot about the gospel. We plan on meeting with her again this week, and I can't wait to see what happens! This week we also had another lesson with our 14 year old investigator Richard. He is so awesome! This time we talked about faith, and read the story of the stripling warriors. Richard was very interested in this story! It was amazing to hear him read from the Book of Mormon for the first time!

The best part of the week was GRACIE'S BAPTISM! Oh. My. Goodness. This was one of the most incredible days of my life. We worked hard getting everything ready for the baptism, and we were incredibly happy to see how it turned out. A little background about Gracie and her family... Gracie's mom is a recent convert, and her dad is not a member. A year ago, Gracie said she wanted to get baptized, but her dad said no. Later on Eric's heart softened, and he said she had to learn and take the lessons to get baptized. She took the lessons, and has an incredibly special relationship with our Heavenly Father. I've never seen anything like it before. Anyway, as time has passed Eric has actually sat in on three lessons with us, and continues to have his eyes opened towards the gospel. In my 19 years of living, I have never felt the spirit quite like I did on Saturday. During the talk on the Holy Ghost the room filled with the spirit, and I had tears running down my cheeks. The spirit was incredible, and I know everyone (about 40 or 50 people!) Could feel it. Eric had tears in his eyes during the program. At one point, I looked over at him and for a brief second I saw him in white clothes. It was amazing. This was the most amazing baptism I have ever been too. I am proud of Gracie for her decision to follow Jesus Christ, and I am thankful for her beautiful testimony.

After the baptism, President Galt (stake President) talked to Eric. President Galt began telling Sister Oldham and I what they had talked about. President said, "Eric, how did it feel?" Eric said, "Good." Then President Galt told him that he could see him baptizing his other two children someday. Eric said, "I can too. I think I'm ready for that." As President Galt told us this, Sister Oldham and I just cried. It's amazing how the gospel can change people for the better. I know this family is special, and I am excited to see where they go in life. That day was filled with an incomprehensible amount of joy!

This week was unlike any other. I am incredibly grateful to be a missionary in the Georgia Atlanta North Mission. I love the people here, and I am beginning to love it out here! Don't get me wrong, I miss everyone, but I know I'm supposed to be here. I love it. I love this gospel, and I know without a doubt that we are to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. I love Him, and I am forever grateful for Him.

I hope everyone has a great week! I miss y'all so much! Love you ❤
